We can cut components up to 720mm long by 420mm wide, out of material thickness from 0.1mm up to 15mm (depending on the material), and engrave graphics at up to 1000dpi, out of many varied materials. Materials Most commonly cut are acrylics, wood, card, fabric. We cut no metals, but if you require something cut from metal our acid etching department can be contacted at etching@modelshop.co.uk. We cannot cut glass or stone (or anything that won't burn) although we may be able to etch the surface. We will not cut PVC, or anything containing vinyl (or anything that will create toxic fumes when burnt). If you have something unusual (types of fabric etc) you are unsure of we will try it as long as it looks benign. Engraving Our laser department specialises in custom engraving, we can cut to the depth you need in the material you want. Past projects have included rubber stamps, business cards*, ouija board, clock faces, portraits, printing blocks and book covers. The possibilities are limited only by your vision. We can engrave onto a wide range of materials, if you have something you’re interested in having custom engraved then give us a call and we’ll see what we can do. Rotary Attachment
The 4D laser can engrave onto the surfaces of cylindrical objects using our rotary attachment. Practical applications in modelmaking and artwork installation, the tool also creates great gifts. Laser marking and in-filling service
Whilst we are unable to cut metals with our laser, we can now offer the option to transfer artwork onto the surface of metals with our laser marking service. The process leaves the artwork “printed” onto the metal in high visibility matte black. Stencil Service
From vector ready artwork (.dwg, .dxf, illustrator, CorelDRAW, .pdf, .eps) we can cut your stencil on a 500mm x 375mm sheet of Oiled Manilla paper from £17.60 inc VAT. Oiled Manilla is ideal for cutting stencils as it cuts very cleanly with no frays to give a very straight cutting line. The waxy nature of the paper allows a very smooth cut even on small or compound curves. Of course we can also cut in a number of other materials that we can pull from our comprehensive stock, just give us a call to discuss your requirements. We also accept artwork in good old pen and paper, however, hand drawn artwork will be subject to a fee for conversion to vectors. All files should come with a 100mm line next to the artwork for scale purposes which can be downloaded here:
Cost At 4D we appreciate that every laser job is unique and we offer a custom service. Send us your artwork and we can provide you with a quote. Alternatively an estimate can be supplied once we have seen a portion of your artwork. We charge £5.50 (+VAT) per sheet for the taping up of materials with a low tack tape. This protects the surfaces from scorch-marks (on card, wood) and from 'gloom' (on acrylics). The laser team will be happy to advise if taping is necessary with your material. Should you require help with artwork preparation we can assist: charges start at £13.20 (+VAT). STUDENTS RECEIVE A 10% STUDENT DISCOUNT The cost of your job can be reduced if the artwork you send is "good to go". Example The artwork below is set out to fit a bed sized sheet and is ready to cut: Scribe and cut line weights need to be hairline or 0.076mm.
This artwork, good to go, engraved and cut on 3mm acrylic will cost £29.25 (+VAT) and materials. The same artwork received with no colour coding or that requires tidying up will cost £50.00 (+VAT) and materials. ANY QUESTIONS?
