From
the organisers point of view is was good to see that
the show was busy from the moment it opened and not
just over the evening of the Private View. We even
has a visit from Brian Blessed who boomed out "Goodness,
what on earth is going on in here!".

In
a very busy show, where over 200 companies from many
different sectors of the Model Making Industry were
present, we had over 300 votes cast in our 'Best in
Show' award.
The
clear winner of 'Best
in Show' was Ruth Turner from the University
for the Creative Arts, who received a gold plated
scalpel and a magnum of Champagne.

'Our
aim with this award is to encourage students to think
more about the kind of models that they would find
interesting and informative if viewed in a museum
environment. We want to challenge the idea that a
museum model has to be interactive and widen the scope
of this category.
This
award is presented to the model that we feel covers
all the criteria for a museum environment. The model
should educate the museum visitor as well as provoke
discussion.

We
were looking for a model of a high quality that
has been well researched and well presented.
Due to a very high standard of work at this
years show, it was certainly a tough decision.
We chose Victoria Holt's "African Baby"
sculpture as this year's winner because we felt
that it fulfilled our brief in every way. It
has been well researched, well executed and
well presented. It has educational content and
a strong message, provoking reaction in the
viewer, and the overall finish was superb.'
